Key verse: v.5, “Our hope is not easily disappointed, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.”
I remember when I was just a kid, waiting to be picked for the P.E. kick ball game. We always looked forward to the kick ball game from 2nd grade to 6th grade. And there I was, always waiting to be picked; waiting and waiting some more. Then finally someone picked me, more out of obligation than desire to have me.
I wanted to make my mark, and prove to them that I was worth the late round choice. I played hard, and even helped us win a few times.
As I have grown, I have discovered a whole lot more challenges greater than being picked for kick ball. The challenges that one finds themselves in requires the ability to endure hardships and trials of many sorts. And what greater example can we have than Jesus, who endured the pain and hardships of the cross.
Remind yourself today— the circumstances that you find yourself in must not determine your character; your character must rise above the circumstances.
What are the two characteristics that you believe are crucial for you?
What significance is perseverance for the Christian journey?
