“What if your life was about to be a Bestseller released Book...”
What would the Title be??
The first response is always the most truthful
It prompted me to ask my community of faith
What would your be?
As we read through Paul’s Letter to the Colossians we can get a glimpse of the title for
Crucified and Alive
The Journeys of a transformed Man
Phillips Craig and Dean came out with the song saying for I am crucified with Christ yet I live
What a great title for a song
What’s a great title for your life journey?
where is God taking you?
Here in Colossians-There is an unusual number of pairings of synonyms, where the same thoughts being repeated. In in Chapter 1 v. 5 we have hope, truth, and gospel placed next to each other; in v. 9 praying and asking are placed side by side; in v. 11 strengthen with power and might, endurance and faith. There are a lot of synonyms placed side by side here.
Paul and the church in Collosae
in 1:7, he refers to the gospel that they received as having been learned from “… Epaphras, our beloved fellow-servant.” And he goes on, “And so from the day we heard of it ….” I, Paul heard of this successful mission in Colossae
This speaks highly of two things
First, Paul’s caring nature is evident
Second, Paul’s attitude and leadership are clearly portrayed asan apostle he wants to be sure of a sure and fundamental foundation
That every bestseller that is very g written has a clear and concise connection to the true authors of their story- Christ alone
His message and meaning must always be a part of the headline or tag line
Like the song by Phillips Craig and Dean that comes from Galatians 2:20
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith.”
now let’s look at chapter 3 of Colossians
Duals for the hand of a woman were common practice 300 years ago
In the western days good guys wore white hats like the Lone Ranger and bad guys like Black Bart wore black hats
It was easy to spot the good guy
There are lots of duets in music
Dualing banjos was popular on tv variety shows
banjos are one thing
But dualing gunfights-and dualing banjos Are Nothing compared to the Dualism Paul makes reference to in Chapter 3
Let me focus on chapter 3 verses one through 17
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And now the Key moments of this dualism is presented:
14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Glad you asked-
